Makeup Trends For Winter 2016

December 17, 2016 By design house

Holiday makeup doesn’t always have to mean bright red lips and glittery eyes. Stylists are taking tips from the past to recreate retro hair and makeup looks that mesh with today’s sleek fashion. Makeup artists are drawing inspiration from hairstyles and clothing in order to create whimsical looks that take you out of the norm.

The Eyes Have It

The eyes are consistently a focal point in autumn and winter makeup. Exaggerated winged eyeliner continues to be an everyday and also runway ready staple look. Perfectly the crispy cat eye [Office1] takes time and patience but using a skinny angled brush allows for increased range of motion and control over the sharpness of the wings. By using an angled brush you can get in close to the lash line and also control the overall thickness of the product. We love carrying Elate products for their high performance capability and colour range. Elate’s liquid liner is all natural and great for the most sensitive eyes.

Some runway makeup artists also choose to recreate the retro  “Barbie,” look. Eyeliners and eye shadows in bright colors such as blue and green are used to create bright fun looks. Playing with these bright shades call for a subdued pink lip to compliment the eyes as a focal point. Shades such as Rave and Modish from Elate give a bright pop of colour but are also wearable.

As always, the smoky eye remains popular in winter makeup. Smokey eyes can be worked by anyone, but their success depends greatly on the colour tone and the finish of the product used. Who says you can’t have a smokey eye during the day? Tone it down for your morning routine, and bold the edges when you’re ready for your night out

Gothic Rules

Makeup Trends for Winter 2016 include several gothic looks. Gothic lip colors are, well, dark, ranging from black to dark plum or deep oxblood reds. These gothic looks are striking and perfect for colder temperatures. Bold lip colours pair well with minimal eye makeup and dewy skin. “Fierce,” moisturizing lip gloss from Elate is a great pace to start, with its dark plum shade.

4Red Lips

There is no doubt that red lips are here to stay. One of the top makeup trends for Winter 2016 is red lipstick. The color can vary from a bright cherry red to darker matte smoky reds. Many makeup artists pair bright red lips with a smokey eye for a striking look. See a consultant to find out which shade is most complimentary to your skin tone!

Metallic and Glitter

A touch of bling will be everywhere this winter. You can wear glitter as a luminizer, eye shadow or lipstick to add texture and dimension. Pick one area to focus the glitter on and leave the rest of the face clean and neutral. Accenting the eyelids with subtle gold glitter is one of the easiest ways to experiment with some shine while keeping it age appropriate and also wearable.

Looking to get creative with some new makeup looks this winter? Our new resident makeup artist Autumn is experienced and also only uses the best non toxic green makeup on her clients. She can show you how to incorporate some of these looks into your everyday life and also feel good about using eco- friendly Elate cosmetics. Contact her here!
